We often hear about so many Hindi films being remade from the south movies. But that’s not always been the case. There are so many instances where some blockbuster Hindi movies have been remade in south. Let’s quickly take a look at 7 Hindi films remade in south.

Dabangg

This Salman Khan-starrer was remade as Osthe in Tamil and Gabbar Singh in Telegu. While the Tamil version had Silambarasan in Salman’s role, the Telegu version starred Pawan Kalyan. Interestingly, while Osthe did average at the box-office, Gabbar Singh created new box-office records.

Munnabhai M.B.B.S

The Telegu version of Munnabai M.B.B.S was called Shankar Dada M.B.B.S and had Chiranjeevi headlining the film. Vasool Raja M.B.B.S was made in Tamil with Kamal Haasan. Both the versions did extremely well at the box-office.

3 Idiots

Titled Nanban, the Tamil version of 3 Idiots starred Vijay in the role of Rancho essayed by Aamir Khan. The film also starred Jiva and Srikanth with Ileana D’cruz reprising Kareena Kapoor Khan’s role. The film’s box-office collection was the highest after Rajinikanth’s Endhiran.

Jab We Met

Tamannaah Bhatia starred in the Tamil remake of Jab We Met titled Kanden Kadhalai. Actor Bharath was seen in Shahid Kapoor’s character. Tamannaah also received a lot of critical acclaim for her work and completely lived up to the iconic character. The film was also a success at the box-office.

OMG (Oh MY God!)

The Telegu remake had Venkatesh in Paresh Rawal’s role while Pawan Kalyan was in Akshay Kumar’s shoes. Interestingly, Mithun Chakraborty took up the same character which he played in the original version. It proved to be successful, critically and box-office wise.

Queen was taken up to be remade in all four languages – Tamil, Telegu, Kannada and Malayalam. The Tamil version titled Paris Paris stars Kajal Aggarwal while the Telegu remake has Tamannaah Bhatia in Kangana Ranaut’s role and it’s titled That Is Mahalakshmi. The Kannada version titled Butterfly stars Parul Yadav while the Malayalam version called Zam Zam has Manjima Mohan in the titular role. As per the last update, the makers were planning an OTT release for all the four versions of the film.

Titled Vakeel Saab, the Telegu language remake had Pawan Kalyan and Prakash Raj, directed by Venu Sriram. The Tamil version is called Nerkonda Paarvai starring Ajith Kumar in Amitabh Bachchan’s role. The Telegu version turned out to be the highest opener in India post the pandemic.

Looking at these trailers, I’d love to revisit some of these movies through their south versions. Clearly, Hindi cinema has no dearth of good content too, that’s so worthy enough to be remade into various versions! I would love to see more of these though!
